To find the foreign movies in the store is not easy. Here are some tips to find his movies. (Sorry, but the reference is mainly for the U.S., and we welcome any useful info for other countries!!)

1. RENTAL
It is very rare to find Sanada-san's movie in your local video rental shop. You are lucky if you can find "Ringu". The alternative is NETFLIX, the online video rental Website. They have much larger selection of foreign movies than the physical video shops. You can find all his recent U.S. releases (The Last Samurai, The Twilight Samurai, Onmyoji and Ringu). If you understand Japanese, or are crazy enough to watch non-English subtitle videos, look for the Japanese video rental shops. In the cities that have large enough Japanese population, there usually are video rental shops in or near the Japanese supermarkets.

2. PURCHASE US version DVDs
There are several DVDs available in the U.S. Some of his old Ninja movies are also available.

Again, you cannot find them in your local Walmart. You have to go online again. Amazon.com has a good selection of his movies. You can click through the link on the right, or from the each movie GUIDE section (List of Works) on this site.

3. PURCHASE Japanese version DVDs
If you exhaust the U.S. version movies, you have to turn to Japan. Japanese version DVDs are in different Region code (Region 2), so you need to have either a "Region-free DVD player" or a PC with the DVD capabilities. (In most cases, region code is changeable on PC.)

Most of his recent movies have English subtitles. Amazon Japan has a good selection of his movies and you can click through from this site, but Amazon Japan Website is not very English-friendly.

4. Other methods
If you pass this point, you are officially a "Hiroyuki Sanada Enthusiast". For you, the only ways you can get MORE of his movies are online auction (Ebay) and to find a friend in Japan.

Sometimes, Film Festivals show some Asian movies. And hopefully, some of his new movies will be shown internationally. Let's hope the Japanese movie companies will make more of his movies available in international market!!!
